MOBIL 1 ESP 5w30 - ALFA MITO 1.3 JTDM 95 HP - 10.000 Km

  • Hello friends from Germany! :hello:
From Italy I am sending you my second engine oil analysis always of my mito 1.3 m jet, this time with 10000km traveled as you advised me previously ..
Engine wear is always high what do you recommend?
if I tried with a ceratec type engine oil additive?
I use the car mainly outside the city and I try to be careful in warming up the engine ....

  • Since this Motor doesn't have a camshaft chain, iron comes from cylinders and camshaft. Chromium comes from camshaft or piston rings.

Ravenol recommends only 5W40 full SAPS Öl. Their Oil finder is quite well informed and usually recommends all the thinner viscosities too, if they are suitable. So this is the wrong oil for this engine. Especially with the temperatures in Italy, you could go for 5W40 or 10W40. An additive cold help, but what protects the engine first is viscosity.

Since you drive carefully and not short range city traffic, I think it is really the thickness causing higher wear than usual.

    English:

Iron at 132 for 10.000km is insanely high, especially given the near optimal usage profile for a diesel. Usually a 5w30 works well in a Diesel, so I’m surprised this analysis is as bad as it is.

Alfa recommends 0w20 for my Giulietta 1.6 jtdm2 with adblue from 2020, I immidieatly switched to a 5w30 as soon as I got it, Petronas Syntium 5000AV, since I have no faith in 0w20 in a Diesel engine. I might go up a grade to 5w40 after seeing your analysis.

The 1.3 multijet does have a timing chain not a belt.

Does the 1.3 jtdm engine have a variable oil pump?

i just saw your mobil 0w40 analysis for the Mito which had similar high iron readings. I heard from multiple people that Fiat jtdm engines do have a long run in process with high wear numbers - your Mobil 0w40 analysis might point into the direction that that might be true? Maybe the right answer would be cheaper but good oil with short change intervals, f.e. 5000km?

Also doch ein Diesel.

Der Benziner mit 95 PS hat 1.4 Liter.

    EDIT

  • hi guys then:
the engine is 1.3 mjet 95 hp diesel !! no petrol and obviously they are km ...
do you think that fiat prescribes selenia wr 0w30 !! :staunt: for my car ... I put first time 0w40 and now 5w30 always mobil 1 esp ...
after this analysis in the oil change at 10000 now I put shell elix ultra ect c3 .... I will see next data and then I will opt for a 5w40 in acea c3
5000 km for change oil is too much for me :lach3: !!

  • @alessandro now think about that Alfa prescribes 0W20 for my Giulietta 1.6 jtdm2 =O . Since we're in the oil club I already run something else, the one thing I don't know is how much of an thicker oil I can use with the variable oil pump before I possibly starve the heads due to thicker oil.

I think your wear numbers will eventually get lower and lower, I've read on the Alfa forums that Fiat JTD's have a long run in time and produce high breakin numbers until you reach a high km, I think up until 80.000 was the number I read. That of course brings the question: is it better to go the cheaper oil way with more frequent changes (Mannol, Fanfaro etc.) or go with the expensive hammer method (Castrol, Mobil, Ravenol etc. maybe with AR9100) and keep it in the engine longer?

But at the end of the day I know one thing: Whatever way you go - a Fiat JTD is a outstanding long lasting engine, whatever you do. The Alfa is my 5th Fiat JTD engine, I never ever had any problems with any of my JTD's. With the 1.3 just keep the timing chain in the back of your head, they are the weak link of the engine. For the timing chain maybe an oil with Ester or Alkylated Naphtalene and Moly would be a good choice. As well as Archoil AR9100.

  • I think the engine has increased engine wear, even for a diesel engine the numbers are quite high, a 5W40 or 10w40 seem to be well worth a try.

Good: Oil viscosity didn't change and the oil doesn't contain diesel.

Do you have oil burn during the interval? How does your driving profile look like?

10ppm/1000km.

    5w40 oder sogar:
Motul 5w50 Sport Ester (low-mid SAPS)

    English
The 0W40 did 3000km more and came out with a very low KV 100, as Blackstone labs writes iron has increased considerably calculated on 1000km. 14.8ppm/1000km vs. 10ppm/1000km.

    5w40 or even:
Motul 5w50 Sport Ester (low-mid SAPS).
